It won't work at all. Material components are an aspect of channeling energy. All spells require some kind of components- vocal, somatic gestures, or materials. Some require a combination, some need all three. The one I'm thinking of is like that.

What's your idea?

At home and at full power, Hades could simply create one if he so chose.

Here, he may be able to create a smaller one.

Hmm... well, I'm not gonna say no, but don't be offended if I don't get my hopes up for it. Manufactured or magically created components don't work. The arcane can recognize what's real and what isn't, and it prefers something home-grown.

I've my own doubts, as the definition of 'dragon' varies from world to world regardless.

At home dragons are aliens from another planet, though we also have scalekin. Dragons are technically scalekin, but scalekin are not dragons, despite overlapping characteristics.

They arrived after the Sundering, so Ardbert's world never had them... Oddly enough they do have myths about dragons.

They're quite fun to fight...

[ She trails off, finishing with her own scales and pulling one of them free with a small, pleased hum. Stuck scales are the worst. Era places it next to the bath products, grabbing a bit of soap and sets about scrubbing her scalp. ]

Do you happen to know of any spells that would amplify the magic cast within a specific area?

Fun to fight, fun to become... I love dragons. They're incredible assholes most of the time, though.

[She tilts her head questioningly at the last inquiry.]

Caaaan you be a little more specific? Because the answer's a solid maybe, but whether or not it's in my wheelhouse is another story entirely.

Hraesvelgr's brood consists largely of rather polite or aloof dragons. Nidhogg's had a fair number of arseholes, but they had also been driven mad so I'm not sure what they were like before then...

What is being a dragon like?


I've managed to translate a healing spell into a touch-activated rune I can place on any surface. I was hoping to find a way to amplify it.

It's... freeing, I guess is the best word for it. Flying is fun in any form, but dragons are layers and layers of muscle, pure power in its most physical form and armored for protection. There's really no way to describe the feeling of flapping your wings and launching up into the air, away from all your troubles.

[Clearly it's been way too long since she polymorphed. She's getting nostalgic now.]

Amplify a healing spell, huh... that, I'm not sure about. Healing isn't really my wheelhouse, and I don't know if any of my spells would affect one. I can go digging in my book, and we can experiment, maybe.

Freeing... That does sound wonderful. Do you ever shapechange like that just for fun?


If you wouldn't mind, I would be very grateful. I need to prepare a method to rapidly heal myself within an incredibly short span of time.

[Regarding the spell, she nods. That'll have to wait until they're dry and she has some time to peruse her book.]

Once in a while, I do. It's important not to spend too much time as other creatures, as you can start to lose your sense of self the longer you stay in a certain form. And that's not even getting into True Polymorph, where if you stay too long you'll be stuck that way forever.

I won't lie though, it's very nice to just be something else for a while.
